logo_NRA-Training-300x113This NRA Basic Pistol course is at least 8-hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot revolvers and semi-automatic pistols. Students learn NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; pistol parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; range rules; shooting from the bench rest position, and two handed standing positions; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, take a Basics of Pistol Shooting Student Examination, and course completion certificate.

shooters4This is a great course and recommended for new shooters who have little to no experience with a pistol or for students who have shot a pistol but lack the knowledge of how to operate the pistol safely and effectively. This would be a great prerequisite course for our TN Handgun Carry Permit course. Both X-Treme Vigilance instructors are certified to teach this course. To attend the NRA Basic Pistol course the student must register through the NRA’s website at http://www.nrainstructors.org/searchcourse.aspx. There, information will be given on deposit, class fee and class dates. Class dates will be listed on the X-Treme Vigilance website also so please check back often to see available dates for this course.

At X-Treme Vigilance, student safety is our top priority. While we want you comfortable we ask that our students wear appropriate attire while on the range. Here is a list of clothing that we suggest that you wear while on the range.

  • Shirts with a tight collar (i.e. t-shirt). Please no low cuts shirts. Hot brass will be flying through the air.
  • Closed toe shoes (i.e. boots, tennis shoes)
  • Pants
  • Weather appropriate attire

To maximize instruction and class participation our classes are limited to 10 students.
