This is an 8 hour course intended to present the State of Tennessee’s standards for obtaining a TN Handgun Carry Permit. During this course you will be presented with the information that the state requires a student to know prior to registering for your permit. During the course you will learn safe handgun handling, legalities of personal protection and self defense shootings, responsibilities of carrying a handgun while in public, handgun storage, care and cleaning, what to expect after a self defense shooting, how to operate different types of handguns (i.e. revolvers and striker-fire handguns), loading and unload handguns and live fire qualifications.
*Students that are attending this course must apply with the state prior to attending. To apply with the state please visit https://dl.safety.tn.gov/_/#6. When you arrive at the state website, click Handgun Permit. Next, to login fill in the requested information. Once you login, fill in the requested information to begin your application. Once you finish your application a confirmation screen will appear. Please use this number when you book your class on the website. Bring this application number with you to your class and present it to the instructors prior to the start of the class. If you fail to obtain a application number prior to class beginning you will not be able to attend the course. No exceptions can be made due to this being state mandated. You will not be refunded for the course. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
At X-Treme Vigilance, student safety is our top priority. While we want you comfortable we ask that our students wear appropriate attire while on the range during the TN Handgun Carry Permit class. Here is a list of clothing that we suggest that you wear while on the range.
- Shirts with a tight collar (i.e. t-shirt). Please no low cuts shirts. Hot brass will be flying through the air.
- Closed toe shoes (i.e. boots, tennis shoes)
- Pants
- Weather appropriate attire. Please bring a jacket with you to the range during the winter months.
Please bring a lunch with you to class. Due to time constraints a lunch break must be taken on site at the school.
While we do encourage you to bring the handgun that you intend on carrying on you after you complete the handgun safety course to qualify with, X-Treme Vigilance can provide you with a handgun to qualify with if you do not have a handgun to use at the time. If you choose to use our handgun to qualify with a $10 fee will be added onto the total cost of the class for the cost of ammunition and maintenance.
